Presbyopia Treatment
In Dallas, Texas
Do you find yourself in the restaurant holding the menu at arm’s length? How about the morning newspaper – can you read it without your reading glasses?
This condition is generally called presbyopia (or "over 40 eyes"). Presbyopia causes you to be unable to focus on objects up-close as you age, and is often remedied by reading glasses or bifocals.
Presbyopia usually develops in older adults, sometime between the ages of 40-45. There are many theories as to how and why presbyopia occurs. Some theories are:
- Atrophy of the muscle tissue that holds your natural (crystalline) in place
- Continued lifelong growth of your corneal lens
- Hardening of your natural (crystalline) lens as you age
Unfortunately, if you are suffering from this condition, conventional LASIK is not the answer. Even patients who have successfully had the LASIK procedure as a young adult still develop presbyopia as an older adult.
