IntraLasik
LASIK in Dallas, Texas

A recent development in laser eye surgery is the IntraLASIK technique. This is an alternative way to create the little corneal flap which must be peeled back for the excimer laser to do its job on the cornea.
This technique, known as the all-laser approach, uses a second laser, Intralase®, to create the corneal flap, instead of the small handheld blade (microkeratome). The advantage of this method is that the laser can create a thinner corneal flap.
Most of us have corneas that are 500 to 600 microns thick. But some of us have thinner and flatter corneas. Since the IntraLASIK technique can create a little flap as thin as 100 microns, it makes this laser surgery available for more people.
The microkeratome is still used however, and Dr. Carter finds that it’s still the best approach in a majority of cases. The microkeratome can create a corneal flap between 100 and 200 microns thick.
Recovery from IntraLASIK surgery is much like recovery from traditional LASIK surgery. Some patients have reported some extra eye irritation and light sensitivity. However these are temporary and Dr. Carter will give you eye drop medications to treat them.
If you’ve been unable to have LASIK surgery before, here’s another opportunity! Choose IntraLASIK, the all-laser approach to LASIK at Carter Eye Center in Dallas, Texas.
